To reshape a map frame, select the map frame in the Contents pane. A map frame can be reshaped, so a rectangular map frame can become circular and vice versa. Modify a map frameĪfter you've inserted a map frame, you can make changes to its appearance and properties. You can then activate the map to adjust the extent. When you change the map referenced by a map frame, the map draws at the default extent. You can also choose to create an empty map frame. On the Options tab, under Map, choose a different map or scene from the drop–down menu. To change the map, right-click the map in the Contents pane and choose Properties. If you change the map referenced by the map frame or adjust the map extent, these elements automatically update. Many elements, such as north arrows and scale bars are linked to map frames on the layout. You can change the map referenced by a map frame at any time. This map is added as a rectangle map frame at the default map extent. You can also create a map frame by dragging a map from the Catalog pane onto the layout. You can adjust the scale by clicking the Scale drop-down menu at the bottom of the layout view and choosing or typing a new scale. The scale of the map may change to preserve the extent.
